I have two major in English and Journalism, and I always have been wondering how to develop English skill, especially listening and speaking.
Because it is the most important part before you live in U.S. Now, here is very fun tips to study English effectively.
My suggestion is Using DVD!!!
Not only you can experience American culture, but also you can see what is real conversation, out of boring text book.
Past over 10 years, most Asian schools have been focusing to teach grammar, vocabulary, and reading skill. However, right now the most important thing is how much you can communicate with Native speakers. Also it's important that how much are you enjoying to study English to improve your English skill. This method will lead students to try to study hard. That is why this DVD is really good device to improve students' motivation to study English.
There are very interesting drama and movies in America, but you should choose based on family story; such as, "Desperate Housewives", "Friends", "No Ordinary Family", or "Gossipgirl".
Those are very easy to follow up the story.
You may want to watch another more exciting stories; for example, "Sex and the City"," Bones", "House","CSI" etc.. However, those series are using very expert words which will not much connect with real life. If you start to know understanding the family drama first, then you may try to watch those criminal or medical drama later.
Second of all, How are you going to watch drama effectively for studying English.
Here is the experience that I have experienced for several years. This is the good way to follow up the story.
1.Watching drama with subtitle with you own language.
2. Watching drama with English subtitle.
3. Watching drama without subtitle.
4. Repeat again and again!!!
If you follow this guide, I am sure your speaking and listening skill in English will be better than now and more effective way to communicate with foreigners.
